Michela Verwey, MSc, PGDipClPs
Michela completed her clinical psychology training at the University of Otago in New Zealand and has five years’ experience in a number of different health and mental health settings, including private practice.
Michela was primarily trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), but in her clinical practice she utilises a number of additional therapeutic interventions such as; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, Schema Therapy, and Eye-Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Michela a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.
Michela prides herself on taking a client-centered approach to therapy and believes the therapeutic relationship between a client and therapist is important to obtaining the best treatment outcomes. She has a passion for assessing and treating a range of presentations in children and adolescents such as anxiety, depression, phobias, toileting difficulties, and behavior management. She has a particular interest completing developmental/cognitive assessments (i.e. for assessment of possible ASD, Intellectual/specific learning difficulties, and ADHD).
In addition to psychological input, Michela believes in working with teachers and schools, and sourcing and utilising community services to further support children and their families. Michela also has experience working with adults, and is particularly interested in the areas of anxiety, stress management, complex trauma and PTSD.
